Foods/fruits that are amplified when you’re high

What is it about pot that makes us want to eat? And what are the best foods to enjoy when using cannabis? Find it all out in this post.

We all know what the munchies are. That starvation sensation we get shortly after smoking or vaping. And commonly we will go to the fridge and get whatever is in there.

Today we want to get your foodie on.

The truth is that cannabis can elevate many foods and turn them into a gastronomically orgasmic experience.

I hope that after experiencing food while being high, you'll see the cannabis/food relationship in a completely different way.

Let’s dive into a delicious world where marijuana meets food.

A delicious assortment of classic munchie foods, perfect for satisfying cravings when high.

What’s the effect of cannabis on foods?

For many years, scientists were baffled about the relationship between weed and the sensation of hunger it provokes. They simply didn’t know what happened there.

As more and more patients with cancer, eating disorders, and other conditions that cause a lack of appetite turned to marijuana to solve their eating issues, scientists took the time to research deeper into the reasons why cannabis makes people hungry, and finally, they found an answer.

It turns out our appetite is controlled by the proopiomelanocortin neurons, aka POMC. These neurons send a signal of fullness that makes us want to stop eating. By turning off cells near the POMC neurons, THC makes POMC neurons change their signals from “You’re done eating”, to “Damn I’m hungry!”

On the other hand, let’s not forget that cannabis increases your production of endorphins, neurotransmitters that can promote or increase appetite.

But that’s not all. Cannabis can increase your smell and taste senses. These heightened senses make foods a lot more attractive than when you’re not high. THC affects the brain areas in charge of smell and taste, making everything smell better, which makes you want to start eating; and taste better, making you want to eat more.

What’s the effect of foods on cannabis?

And what about the other way around? Does food have an effect on using cannabis? Let’s talk about it.

There is one obvious thing: smoking a lot on an empty stomach is a bad idea. Especially with cannabis strains that have a higher percentage of THC, smoking without eating can cause the fearsome whitey (aka white out) that we’ve all gone through at least once.

Another known effect that foods have on cannabis is a cooler one and has to do with certain foods, especially fruits, that can really elevate your high to new levels.

But there’s a whole section to talk about that later.

Foods to enjoy when you’re high

Fresh, juicy fruits like mangoes, strawberries, and pineapples, known to enhance the effects of cannabis and provide a refreshing taste experience.

Pot makes anything smell and taste better. It doesn’t really matter if you're eating a whole course or a snack. If you’re eating something savory or a dessert. If it’s solid or liquid food. Hot or cold.

No matter what it is, weed will make it better. Yet, some foods really feel like heaven in your mouth every time you take a bit under the influence of cannabis. So I will focus on those.

Just a couple of disclaimers here:

  • Eating too much after smoking (especially if you eat right after smoking) can make you feel sick of your stomach, puke, etc.
  • Keep in mind that the more you eat, the heavier you get, so don’t say we didn’t tell you.

Now, let’s get to it:

Junk food

Junk food has to be the #1 food all over the world after getting a duby.

No one knows why, but 9 out of 10 times, the first thing we want to sink our teeth into when having the munchies is a greasy pizza, a leaky cheeseburger with double bacon, or any other guilty placer.

Some of our unhealthy delicious junk food we just love to have when high are bacon, American cheese, hot dogs, chili and nachos, french fries, and fried chicken.

Fruits

Fruits will make you feel refreshed and will give you an energy boost that will come especially handy if you had a middle-day joint at the office or if you have errands to do.

The best foods are the ones with a large water percentage, but any fruit will taste exceptionally better after getting ripped.

Mangos, strawberries, pineapples, grapes, melons, watermelons, pomegranates, and even raisings have a mouthwatering taste on each bite when you’re buzzed.

If you prefer more mushy fruits, bananas, apples, papaya, and coconut are succulent options.

Vegetables

Vegetables, just like fruits, will revitalize you and allow you to feel high without getting dumb.

The best veggies with a high amount of water on their compositions are cucumbers, carrots, beets, radishes, and celery. Hey, and you can a good scoop of PB on that celery.

Potatoes, sweet potatoes, or even exotic green plantains are starchy vegetables that you could enjoy eating with that buzz. Your loved ones will be very proud of how many veggies you’re eating now.

Comfort food

An all-time favorite, just like junk food, comfort food features large portions, lots of variants, a ton of grease, and unbelievable flavor.

Grits with gravy and shrimps, chicken and waffles, macaroni and cheese, chicken or beef casserole, lasagna, and any other satisfying food are some of the foods you’ll completely rediscover if you taste them while being high.

The only hard thing will be knowing when to stop.

Snacks

You probably don’t have comfort or junk food, but is very likely you will have snacks. Snacks are the best option if you want to binge-watch TV, watch a live YouTube video or play video games for hours.

My favorite snacks are Doritos, but you can find a wide variety of bites like cheese puffs, cheese sticks, nachos, peanuts, and many others.

Sweets

[caption id="attachment_14817" align="aligncenter" width="512"] Desserts after cannabis are exceptional[/caption]

Sweets are some stoners’ favorites. With the enhanced taste in food after smoking or vaping is possible that just a little piece of chocolate or any sweet makes you feel on cloud nine.

Chocolate is people’s number one choice. If we love chocolate at regular times, can you imagine the experience chocolate becomes when high? It f-ing awesome.

Gummies, cookies (chocolate chip ones are best, for some reason), cakes, pies, sweet mousses, and other sweets can give you a transcendental experience when tasting them under Jane's influence.

Drinks

Alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks can come in handy when you’re stoned.

Something very common, especially after smoking, is getting your mouth dry. This sensation can become very uncomfortable, and that’s when a cool beverage can save the day.

If you’re looking to ditch alcohol, any juice can do the trick of taking the dryness away while making you taste something delicious.

If instead, you want to increase your buzz, cannabis pairs very well with wine or beer. Just remember to keep an eye on yourself.

Healthy foods

Looking for a non-belly-stretcher option? There are healthy foods with such great taste when you’re high, you will think you’re eating a large piece of pizza.

I’m kidding, that’s impossible. But these options are healthy and taste good.

Energy bars with chocolate drops or raisins will give you the kick of sugar your body craves after cannabis.

Seeds and nuts are other great options if you want to please your munchies without feeling guilty after. Peanuts, nuts, pumpkin seeds, cashews, and even hemp seeds are delicious and nutritious treats.

Foods that make you higher

Dark chocolate, nutmeg, and ripe mangoes—foods known to interact with cannabis for a stronger and longer-lasting high.

Want to know what foods increase the effects of cannabis in your brain? You may know them already, or not. Let’s see:

Mangoes

Mangoes contain a type of terpene called myrcene. This terpene interacts with your body’s endocannabinoids, just as cannabis ones do.

Mangoes’ myrcene makes the cells of the endocannabinoid system more sensitive to the effect of THC, allowing it to smoothly enter your body and releasing all its power.

The result? A faster, longer, better high than when just using weed.

To really enjoy the effects of mangoes in weed smoking, make sure to eat a few pieces of ripe mangoes at least 40 minutes before your duby.

I know, is not something very spontaneous, but if you enjoy experimenting new things and discovering more things about your use of cannabis, this is a great way to start.

Chocolate

A favorite of many, chocolate resembles cannabis in one thing: it makes you happy.

But, unlike mangoes, chocolate doesn’t poke your endocannabinoid system.

What chocolate does for you is using anandamide, an element in chocolate’s composition that increases your dopamine levels, making you… That’s right, feel happier.

It is said that chocolate can also make your eyes less red, but it doesn’t count when you’ve been smoking all day long.

Nutmeg

Did you know nutmeg on its own is a psychotropic? When consumed in large amounts, nutmeg can have strong hallucinogenic effects on consumers.

This is due to myristicin, a component of nutmeg that, believe it or not, is also a component of powerful drugs like MMDA and other hardcore dope.

Obviously, you don’t want to be tripping and talking crazy stuff in the middle of the street, at the office, or at your friend’s house because you used a lot of nutmeg. Here’s the trick: grind a little bit of nutmeg (something like a pinch of salt or less) on your joint, roll it up, and enjoy your high.

To make it safe, take a couple of puffs and wait to see the effect before you keep smoking. And make sure to add just a little bit.

Seriously, use only a little bit.

Food to lower your high

Dark chocolate, nutmeg, and ripe mangoes—foods known to interact with cannabis for a stronger and longer-lasting high.

Ok, so maybe you got carried away and smoked just a little too much in the name of experiencing all those delicious flavors.

Now what you need is to get unhigh. Yup, that just happened to you.

But do not worry: you don’t have to feel embarrassed for being on a whiteout. We’ve all gone through that time when we just need to get sobered up real quick before we start puking all around… or after we did it.

One common effect of smoking cannabis is getting your mouth dry. This sensation can be uncomfortable and you could even feel it in your eyeballs.

So, the first thing to do to ditch your over-high is drinking fluids.

Under this circumstance, it is not recommended to drink alcoholic drinks. Alcohol has the opposite effect you’re looking for, so you’ll find yourself puking harder and feeling worst.

Thick drinks like milkshakes, smoothies, and others, aren’t the best option either. What you need is a fresh and preferably cold drink. Orange, passion fruit and watermelon juices are better options, but the number one option to choose when feeling too high is water. Drink a glass or two, take a rest for a few minutes, and you will be good as new.

Milk is another good drink to lower your high, and even to clean cannabis from your bloodstream.

Another useful solution to get unhigh is eating candy.

Sweet foods can help to decrease some of the effects of marijuana, like heart rate, blood pressure, and dry mouth.

One candy will suffice, but most people prefer to eat a large chunk of chocolate because it lowers the high but doesn’t take the good mood away.

Others prefer eating nuts or seeds like pine nuts, almonds, or cashews to decrease their high while eating something healthy.

Another popular remedy is chewing a couple of pepper grains if your whitey has made you a little anxious. Whether you’re high or not, chewing pepper is a remedy you can recommend to anyone.

It doesn't matter which of the popular remedies you decide to choose to help you get back on your feet. It is vital that you also take a rest lying or sitting down, that you stay in a place near to an air stream, that you control your breathing to make it slower, and that you keep calm.

Cannabis is, without a doubt, a world on its own. The astounding properties it has to improve your mood, your heart, your lungs, your breathing, your sexual life, and even your appetite (and I’m deliberately leaving many other benefits aside) makes cannabis a good-for-all solution that has revolutionized millions of peoples lives.

How has cannabis improved your life so far? Have you experienced the enhanced flavors of the food when you’re high? What’s your favorite munch?
