‘High’ Experience: A day at the beach

Introduction

If you’re looking for a break in your daily routine and just need to let loose and enjoy life for a while, a weed-friendly trip to the beach might be the way to go. What more could you need?

A relaxing environment in a relaxed state of mind is a sure recipe for success. And smoking cannabis at the beach, either alone or with a group of friends, is like the holy grail of relaxation.

So what do you need for your “high” beach day? What should you do? What shouldn’t you do? We will answer all of these questions further on, so keep reading for more.

And keep these tips in mind the next time you head to the beach with a joint in the glove compartment.

Consuming Cannabis at the Beach: Do's and Dont's

In this section we are going to talk about what you should and shouldn’t do if you are trying to have a nice “high” at the beach. Of course, at the end of the day, it is totally up to you, but we know from experience what works and what doesn't. So here it is!

When it comes to having some fun in the sun while enjoying some cannabis, we know what we are talking about. And the first thing we can recommend is be prepared.

Be Prepared

A packed backpack with joints, snacks, and a towel by a door in morning light.

As a stoner, we all know memory can get a little hazy and that ‘blurred sense of memory’ can get intense when under pressure. Take it from us, save yourself the hassle of getting out the door in a hurry and prepare everything beforehand.

Some things you want to consider are clothing options, packing, food prep, and of course preparing your pre-rolled joints. Or prepping the weed for hiters. You could also consider taking vape pens or consuming edibles. Whichever you prefer.

Once you have everything in one backpack and ready to go, leave it by the door so the only thing you have to do in the morning is get it and go. Not sure what to take to the beach? Check out our checklist below.

Download some music

A good playlist can be the difference between a good beach day and a transcendent beach day. We recommend you make a playlist of the songs you really like and download them so you don’t need the internet to listen to them.

If you don’t know what type of music to listen to, we put together a playlist for you. If you enjoy electronic music, you should definitely give it a listen.

Consider the munchies

Don’t forget the food. Remember that you need to stay hydrated and eat well when exposed to the sun. Some food won’t work well at the beach. Finger foods might not be a good idea given the sand.

Our favorite food to take is a plethora of snacks and a fruit platter. If you do choose to take fruit, we highly recommend a mix of citrus fruits and mango. Given that they are known to enhance a ‘high’ produced by cannabis.

You can also have a cooler with water and energy drinks. If you are consuming cannabis we recommend you not drink alcohol, although technically there isn’t a problem if you do. Just remember, never drink and drive.

Pack smart and as light as possible

There are some obvious essentials you don’t want to forget when going on a trip to the beach. The first thing you want to pack is a first aid kit. And you might want to include some shaving cream in that kit (it helps with jellyfish stings).

Think of a solution for shade, but also consider that you have to carry whatever it is in the sand, under the burning hot sun, and that you will likely be high by the time you get to the beach.

So keep it light with essentials only and pack it smart so that all of the perishables by water are safe. We actually recommend you take waterproof ziplogs so you can cover the electronics and enjoy them safely.

Oh and don’t forget the sunscreen. Trust us when we tell you that you don’t want to feel a sunburn while high. So just don’t forget to protect your skin and make it waterproof. Even if you don’t get into the water the breeze and sweat will wash it off.

If you do get a sunburn, make sure you have aloe vera on hand so you can rub it on the sunburns. We swear by the magic effects of aloe vera. If you rub it on the burn every 30 minutes for four hours, you will wake up like new.

Choose your spot on the beach wisely

This serves two purposes. Your comfort and the comfort of those around you. If we want people to respect our consumption, then we have to learn to respect their non-consumption.

If there are more people on the beach, choose a spot that is more isolated so that you're not smoking in a family-friendly environment. If it is a weed-friendly beach then feel free to choose whichever spot you like.

Think about activities or games you can play

There are tons of beach games you can play with your friends. Volleyball, tag, twister, card games, etc. Think of fun activities for you guys to do so that you can spend quality time bonding over your cannabis experience at the beach.

If you are going to get some alone time. We recommend you take a notebook, a pen, a good book to read, or a mat so that you can just sit and enjoy the view. Cannabis can also be an amazing tool to spend some cathartic alone time at the beach.

Be cautious and remember to treat the ocean with respect

We recommend you check where the nearest hospital to that beach is, and if they have an ambulance available before you consume cannabis. A lot of things can go wrong at the beach and having this information written down somewhere can be the difference between life and death.

The ocean is a place that has a ton of small and large animals that are a danger to humans, and the tide itself can do some serious damage if you’re not careful. So if you’re thinking of going into the water, just be cautious and try to stay aware of your surroundings.

If an accident does happen, stay calm and think about possible quick solutions. Look for a life-guard and alert them about the situation so they can help.

Also along the lines of treating the ocean with respect, remember to clean up after yourself and make sure that you leave no trash behind.

Set yourself up for comfort and enjoy!

The most important tip we can give you is to set yourself up for success. Think about what you are going to do, what you would like to eat, what you would like to drink, listen to, play, see, etc.

Pack accordingly to the way you envisioned yourself and think of this cannabis-induced beach day as an escape. A mini-vacation of indulgence where you can give yourself the opportunity to just let loose and enjoy.

So, if you wanna just sit and listen to music while you smoke, make sure you have everything to grant yourself your every desire. That day will be just for you, so enjoy!

High Itinerary: The ultimate day at the beach

A group with a joint around a campfire at sunset, a speaker glowing, and waves nearby.

If there are two things that have ever matched, it’s cannabis and the beach. They just go. So, if you want to enjoy this wonderful experience at the max potential, here is a detailed itinerary that you can follow:

The day before the beach trip

  • Pack all of the things from the checklist above. Don’t forget the pre-rolls!
  • If you rather roll your cannabis yourself, make sure to do it one day prior to the beach day. Trust us when we say that rolling a joint at the beach becomes a much harder task!
  • Get your snacks ready. We recommend mangos given that they tend to potentialize the effects of cannabis. If you do take mangos, eat them 30 minutes before lighting your joint.
  • If you like trippy music, we have also compiled a list of amazing songs to enjoy at the beach. Download these or your favorite jams. Music will make all the difference!
  • Think of some fun games you can play with your group of friends! You can actually put a fun spin on Twister for example, and make it so you have to take a dab every time the color green comes out.

The 'high' experience beach day itinerary

8:00 am - Get ready and pack all your essentials in the car.

9:00 am - Wake n’ Bake session and breakfast. Remember that cannabis and food are amazing together and try some local restaurants for a nice change of pace from what you’re used to.

10:00 am - Go to the beach. Whether you’ll wake up or drive to the beach, look at the shops from where you are and the beach. Be aware of the hospital, if you know exactly where it is, it could save your life.

10:30 am - Arrive at the beach and set up. When you get to the beach, set up your umbrella or tent, get your cooler, and put it in the shade along with everyone's stuff. Pop a cold one open and start enjoying the waves.

11:30 am - Time for a mid-morning snack. Mangos might be a good idea.

12:00 pm - Enjoy a pre-roll for the pre-game. And remember, sharing is caring. This might be a good time to listen to the playlist we curated for you.

12:30 pm - It’s game time! A fun idea could be to make it a friendly competition and the winner gets a special prize to enjoy at a later time.

2:00 pm - Take a break from the sun! Go into town to enjoy a drink, or visit a fun café to enjoy some lunch. Beach towns almost always have tons of art, you could also go hunting for some great visuals!

4:00 pm - Chill time. Go back to your spot at the beach and set up to enjoy the rest of the day. You can spend some time connecting with yourself or separate into different groups and just do what each of you enjoys.

4:20 pm - You know what to do.

6:00 pm - Enjoy the sky and sea, this is normally the hour that you can enjoy the beach at its calmest. Right before the sunset hits and the tide goes up. So if you’re thinking of swimming, now is the time to do it.

7:00 pm - Enjoy the sunset with a nice pre-roll.

8:00 pm - If you want to end your beach day with a bang, get a fire going and make some smores for dinner while you hear the waves crashing in the distance. This is the perfect moment to share your experience with your friends and just have a laugh together.

10:00 pm - Get your stuff and head home, you’ve had a full day. Once you shower and get all of the sand off your body, rub some aloe vera gel on your burns. We guarantee that will let you have a good night's rest even if you have sunburns.

Conclusion

No matter whether you go to the beach by yourself or with your friends, with a little help from Mary Jane, you are sure to have a wonderful experience. Remember that, on an emotional level, weed reflects what we feel on the inside.

Don’t be afraid to take a lesson from the ocean and go with the flow. There is no better way to guarantee you have a good trip then to just let the strain take you where it wants to go.
